John P. Balser, Ph.D.
President

Dr. Balser is the President of Veristat Inc., and is primarily responsible for strategic consulting and overseeing data management and statistical analysis functions. Prior to co-founding Veristat Inc., Dr. Balser served as Vice President, Biostatistics and Data Management at Medical & Technical Research Associates, Inc. (MTRA), a contract research organization. At MTRA, Dr. Balser initiated the Division of Biostatistics and Data Processing and grew the division into a staff of 35, including biostatisticians, clinical data managers, and data entry personnel. Dr. Balser was responsible for the production of quality assured clinical data bases, statistical reports, and NDA/BLA documents, and established operational procedures and management structure for the division. Prior to joining MTRA, Dr. Balser was the Manager of Biostatistics at Miles, Inc., (currently Bayer Corporation) where he supported clinical studies in all of the company's indications, including anti-infective, cardiovascular, metabolic, and neurovascular. In this capacity, Dr. Balser represented the company at all meetings requiring statistical input, including pre-Phase III and post-NDA submission meetings with FDA. Dr. Balser performed similar functions in his role as the Assistant Director of Biostatistics at Biogen Research Corporation. Dr. Balser began his career in the pharmaceutical industry in 1981 at E.R. Squibb & Sons, Inc., as a senior research statistician. Prior to joining industry, Dr. Balser was a staff statistician at Northeast Utilities, Hartford, CT. Dr. Balser holds a BS in mathematics from Holy Cross College and an MS and PhD in statistics from Cornell University.
