The Business Development Director is responsible for developing and expanding new business opportunities with prospective clients as well as with established accounts, by providing hands-on leadership for overall expansion of Veristat’s client and revenue base. This involves conducting outreach to prospective clients, cultivating existing client relationships through effective client relations management, and leading Veristat’s overall marketing efforts. The Business Development Director also provides client support throughout the contracting phase and actual project duration, by identifying issues, clarifying and determining needs and objectives, and leading the implementation of creative solutions for client satisfaction. In this capacity, the Business Development Director collaborates extensively with the senior management team and the Contracts function within the Finance group.
Collaborate with senior management in the development of an overall business development strategy plan. Lead, coordinate, and conduct capabilities presentations in collaboration with functional team members. Enhance existing customer relationships and develop new customer relationships through planned individual account support and consistent follow-up (outreach process). Monitor and enhance outreach process, analyze and assess company performance across clients, and provide weekly updates to senior management. Maintain the company’s sales tools (capabilities templates, and sales collateral). Identify key business issues in collaboration with prospective and current clients, advise senior management and lead execution of resolution plans. Identify areas for improvement that will serve to enhance client satisfaction and project quality and attend meetings with other company functions necessary to ensure client satisfaction. Liaise with prospective clients during the entire Request for Information (RFI)/Request for Proposal (RFP), and the contractual document generation process in conjunction with the Contracts function within the Finance group. Collaborate with the Contracts function and functional group personnel regarding proposal text, scope of services for proposals and change orders including review of payment schedules, and contract terms and conditions that meet company and prospect/client needs. Direct the activities of the Business Development Associate (BDA), with a strong focus on development and mentoring in the areas of outreach as well as leading and executing the marketing efforts. Co-develop an annual marketing plan with BDA and coordinate the company participation in and representation at industry events/conferences. Collaborate with Director of Finance in the areas of market research and strategic partnerships. Provides guidance to Finance and Contracts from a client relations perspective on client collections and the negotiation of payment plans based client’s current business condition and pipeline. Receives guidance from Finance on the formation of marketing budgets, contract price negotiations, and the development of sales targets.
Minimum Education: BS/BSc/BA in a business, science, or industry-related discipline. Minimum Work Requirements: Minimum of five (5) years of direct sales experience in a mid-sized contract research organization (CRO), with a focus on uncovering new business opportunities. Proven success at expanding client and revenue base through achievement of sales targets. Skills: Extensive knowledge of clinical research practices, including clinical monitoring, safety and pharmacovigilance, data management and reporting, biostatistics and programming, medical writing, and technical project management. Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to create positive impressions. Strong negotiation, presentation, listening, and written/oral communication skills. Works well in a collaborative team environment. Travel is required as needed.
